Wirelessly Charging an Electric Car

With plenty of hybrid vehicles on the market and the rising popularity of pure electric vehicles, it seems like it is just a matter of time until there are more electric cars than gas cars. But just how long of a wait would that be? Will it be achieved within this century? A company called Evatran hopes that with their wireless electric charging technology they can supply 80% of all the charging stations with wireless function.

The above video is a 6 month review of their wireless charging station that was tested on a Nissan Leaf. The station is installed on to the floor and a device is installed on the car’s battery to receive the power wirelessly when it is parked over the station. But with a steep price tag (currently $2800 and must be installed by certified technicians) is it worth it now for not having to deal with plug-in cables? Maybe not now but hopefully in the future the costs will go down to affordable rates.
